    OURSON (teddy bear)

    Who is this level for?

    • I already have my Piou Piou medal.
    • I am between 7 and 12 years old
    • I already recognise my skiing equipment
    • I can click in and out of my skis all by myself
    • I can control my speed and know how to turn (using a snow plough).
    • I can shuffle around on my skis on an almost flat slope with different types of terrain.
    • I can slide down a gentle slope with my skis pointing downhill, whilst also knowing how to stop myself by using a snow plough.

    The Test :

    • Complete "snaking" turns in a snow plough, by going round 4 or 5 little poles.
    • Move around on skis in different ways over a varied but almost flat terrain.
    • Can ski with skis parallel straight downhill and stop using a snow plough turn.

    Who is this level for?

    • I have my Ourson medal.
    • I know how to control my speed and can traverse across the slope using snow plough turns.
    • I remain balanced while sliding faster with both skis parallel across and down the slope on both skis or from one ski to the other, over a smooth terrain on a gentle slope.
    • I can brake and stop  myself. I have started to side-slip.

    The Test :

    • A series of 7 to 8 snow plough turns, with the skis brought back to parallel position in between, over a suitable marked out course.
    • Elementary direct line across the slope following a roughly straight trajectory.
    • Test of balance when skiing whilst facing down the slope (with little jumps, moving from one foot to the other, over small bumps, etc) on a gentle slope.

    Who is this level for?

    • I have my Flocon (Snowflake) medal.
    • I can link parallel side-slip turns taking into account external factors (terrain profile, other skiers, quality of snow ...).
    • I am balanced when traversing across on low to medium slopes.
    • I can parallel turn (maintaining the angle of edges).

    The Test :

    • On a moderately steep slope, a series of parallel side-slip turns over a suitably marked out course.
    • Direct traversing line following a curved trajectory.
    • Step turns on a gentle slope (starting off at an angle).

    Who is this level for?

    • I have the 1st Star medal.
    • I can link refined basic parallel turns, I cross the slope in parallel ski and I drive my turns using my edges taking into account external factors (terrain profile, other skiers, quality of snow ...).
    • I can ski across terrains including hollows and bumps, facing or crossing downhill whilst remaining balanced.

    The Test :
    • Series of around ten perfect parallel turns over a suitably marked out course on a moderately steep slope.
    • Basic direct line passing over hollows and bumps.
    • Basic skating step.

    Who is this level for?

    • I have my 2nd Star medal.
    • I can link together controlled parallel turns, I can cross the slope with my skis parallel and I drive my parallel turns using my edges, taking into account external factors (terrain, profile, other skiers, quality of snow...).
    • I can control my balance in a schuss over varied terrain (hollows and bumps).
    • I am improving my side balance by using successions of skids, interrupted with direct tracks in crossing.

    Le Test :

    • Series of around ten basic turns imposed by 10 to 12 poles, on a moderately steep slope.
    • Basic single garland, on a moderately steep slope.
    • Perfect direct line to build up speed, finished with a braking side-slip, all on a moderately steep slope.

    Who is this level for?

    • I have my 3rd Star medal.
    • I've refined basic parallel turns by reducing how much I side-slip.
    •  I adapt my "godille" (short fast turns) or wide turns taking into account and compensating for external factors (terrain, skiers, type of snow ...).
    • I can control my balance in a schuss when taking off from rounded bumps, on a prepared piste or terrain (skier-cross type run).
    • I am beginning to get used to skiing in all snow conditions.

    The Test :

    • Non-timed assessment of the pupil's ability to complete perfect basic turns, with two changes of rhythm on a slope of various gradients (alternating medium, short and medium-radius turns through 15 to 20 gates).
    • Basic "godille" (short fast turn).
    • Passage over bumps with light take-off on a prepared piste or terrain (skier-cross type run)

    Who is this level for?

    • I have my Bronze Star medal.
    • I am confident enough to try alpine skiing in all its forms.
    • I can ski without stopping on ski slopes of a steep gradient, in any type of snow conditions, taking into account external factors and respecting the skier's rules of conduct.
    • I have the confidence to ski in challenging areas or over difficult terrain: e.g. skier-cross, half-pipe.

    The Test :

    • Short giant slalom, timed (pupil must complete the slalom within a time limit given; a maximum of 50% longer is allowed, when compared to the opener's time).
    • Technical sequence of perfect wide radius and short radius turns over a varied terrain (on slope, off-piste, etc).
